My Baby

Yesterday, Trey turned 4 years old. I cannot believe that I don't have a baby anymore! By the time Lily turned 4, I was having Trey. It is kind of sad, but I am enjoying not having to change diapers and most importantly...enjoying my sleep! Trey has grown into such a funny little guy. He pops out with some of the funniest phrases and he is completely serious! He has a love/hate relationship with his sisters and I have a feeling he will terrorize them for many years to come. He is so sweet natured at times and other times, he is ALL boy. I continued to be amazed at how loud one little boy can be. We took him to a Legends game for his birthday and sat with friends. It was a lot of fun, but made for a very cranky boy by the 5th inning. All in all I think he had a fabulous day! His birthday party was tonight.....more pics to come on that!

Trey-isms

Trey is such a funny little guy. He really has us cracking up....A LOT! He talks all the time....and never in a soft voice! Here are a couple of things I have heard him say in the past two days:

At supper last night:
Trey to me after I gave him a glass of water (and with a serious face)-"Thanks, Mommy! I haven't had water in years!"

At the library today:
Me: "Trey, get out from under there!" (he was playing under one of the horse sculptures that specifically say no climbing or playing on horses)
Trey (very matter of fact): "Mommy, I was just rubbing her toes. She had dirt on them. That horse is a girl."

How could I argue with that?

Appreciating the Little Things

This past week has been a tough one. Daniel has been gone for his two weeks and that is always difficult! Then to add to that, I also had my 4th mammogram in a year and a half. I started getting mamms done right before I turned 35, due to my mom and her breast cancer. I was told that I should expect to go twice in a year to establish a baseline. I was starting to get worried when every time I went, they would say come back in 6 months and check the box on my paper that said "probably benign". Probably is not definitive enough for me. I only worried, b/c that is pretty much what happened to my mom. They told her to come back in 6 months and then BAM, its cancer. So not having Daniel here to help calm my nerves was hard b/c it is not something you talk about with your children. Everything went really well and I don't have to go back for a year. I still have to be classified as diagnostic, but I think that is just so if something has changed from the previous, I am at the right center (only certain ones handle diagnostic). A typical mammogram is just considered a screening. While at the doctor, I got a call from my principal. Naturally I was curious....then worried (about my job) b/c my principal doesn't call me to chat. I call her back after I leave the doctor and she tells me that one of my students from last year was in a car wreck with his mom and brother. The mom did not survive. I was heartbroken for this family! J was such a sweet boy and his mom (and dad) were so nice. I met my principal and FRC coordinator at the visitation. It was honestly one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I was able to hold it together to talk to J and his dad. I have to say that it made me feel like I did the right thing by going just to see J smile when he saw me. He was all bruised and beat up, but gave me a hug. His dad said that was the most he had moved for anyone. I cried all the way back to pick up the kids at a friends house. I was so heartbroken for those two little boys whose mom will never see them grow up, get married, have kids. All I could do when I got home was hug and kiss mine and pray they never have to experience that kind of pain. Needless to say, I am looking forward to a much calmer (and happier) week ahead!

Alaska

No...we did not go to Alaska (I wish!). My aunt went and sent gifts for us. She has been before when Meghan was about 5 and Lily was just a baby. Here are their Alaskan treasures:
Meghan got the suffed otter, which my aunt says swam near their boat a lot, minus the females who carried their young on their bellies, but kept a distance. She also got the two necklaces, which she absolutely loves! (I have this picture turned correctly in my files....not sure why it wouldn't cooperate on here)
Lily got her first Alaskan doll (that is what Meg got from Aunt Helen's first trip). She also got the stuffed Husky (which my aunt got to see the sled dogs....did you know they actually get in a giant hamster wheel to run?....and they get in it completely on their own...these dogs LOVE to run!). She also got a very pretty pink necklace.
Trey was very excited to get his gift. He got a Bald Eagle, a very cute train whistle, and a book about the Gray Wolf. He carries his train whistle around everywhere!
Aunt Helen also sent us some hats from Alaska. Thanks, Aunt Helen!! Hopefully, one of these days, we can make the journey to Alaska ourselves!

Cow Appreciation Day!

It was cow appreciation day today at Chick-Fil-A and we took full advantage! All of us got combo meals or kids meals completely free since we dressed like the cows! Can't beat lunch on the cows! Yum!

July 4th (and before....)

Last week seemed so busy, but looking back, I wonder what I did all week! I did get a girl's night out on Tuesday to play Bunco and then go from there with good friends to see the midnight showing of Eclipse! I thought I would need major caffeine to keep me awake, as I did not get a nap, but the movie was so good, I wasn't tired at all! It was awesome and I loved it and can't wait to go back...this time with Meghan!

Meghan was at camp all this past week (and on the Youth Mission Trip this week). I missed/miss her! Her camp was music, art, dance, and drama all while worshipping God all week. She loves this camp! Last year she did dance and drama and this year she chose to do creative writing, sign language, and paper making (which is harder than you think!). I was blown away by all they had learned in one week! They all sang 3 songs, one completely in Latin, and she signed the song Mighty to Save. She also read some of her creative writing pieces. I was really impressed by all they did!

The fourth of July we spent with family and our good friend, Holly. We had a cookout at our house, which was fun....and Alyssa made a new yummy dessert, which could become one of my new favorites! We then went to see some fireworks, which I wasn't as impressed with this year as in years past, but when you are with family and friends, it was just as fun!
