My Little Sports Fanatic

Trey is a lot like his mommy and daddy...sometimes obsessive and a little anal. When Trey and Lily were having a snack of Cheez-Its, he wanted Lily to sit like him and put her cup right beside his. He likes his drink to be next to Daddy's on the coffee table as well as his hat and gloves just so when he takes them off. He has an insatiable love for all things Spiderman (not really sure why), but it is cute. He has now developed a love for all things sports related. The boy will sit and watch football with his daddy or basketball for that matter. It is cute to see him take his daddy the remote control and say "football daddy" or "babbitball daddy". When I told him my favorite team was playing today...he sat right on the couch and told me "babbitball mommy". He loves to wear his batting helmet as his football helmet and tackle his Pooh bear or just throw his nerf football around. He loves to use his daddy's military duffle bag as his basketball net. When he shoots and misses he says "oh man...my missed it mommy". I can only imagine when he gets older that he will just have to play them all! Not that his daddy will mind :)! He is even sporting his basketball jersey and shorts that Nana got him last year over his winter clothes right now! Crazy sports fanatics!

Snow Day #7

We ventured out on Friday to meet up with Heather, Holly, and the gang (including Anmol and Libby) to go to the movies. We went to see the Tale of Desperaux, which was cute, but something I was glad I didn't pay full price to see! We went to the cheap seats at $1.50 a person....not to bad for 4 of us! Trey sat entranced during the whole movie, even though I had to wake him up early from his nap to go. And get this....when the movie was over, Trey started to cry...in earnest...for the little mouse with the big ears! It was so sweet! He kept saying "where mouse go?" all the while big fat tears rolled down his cheeks. Too cute! We had to distract him with the movie poster of Hotel for Dogs which he went and saw when Mimi came in to visit. How he is in love with TV/movies these days!

Sledding Fun

Here are the pictures I promised of the kids sledding. Trey LOVED it this year...he couldn't get enough. I don't know how many times he went down with his Daddy and Meghan. I think he might have tried by himself, but Mommy said he was too young! Maybe next year!

Oh The Snow!

Remember the above picture showing you all the ice that we got? Well around 9:45 or so this morning, all that yucky sleet/freezing rain/rain shifted over to snow. It came down in HUGE flakes....the biggest I have ever seen and then my patio table looked like this:
A quick change! It was so pretty coming down, but it came down so fast, it was a virtual white out while looking outside. I can't imagine what it was like if you were driving! The kids went sledding this afternoon....I will post pictures tomorrow morning on that....because surprise surprise, we have another snow day! I am betting that we don't go to school Friday either just due to lack of power around the city. I am just thankful that with this ice storm, so far we do NOT fall into that category!

Mommy's Helper

Last night was a cold night so Trey and I made potato soup (which he calls Hot Potato soup b/c he loves The Wiggles). He was fussy due to no nap, so I made him my helper. He helped me make the Teresa rolls (Mimi's recipe) and got very dirty while he helped. When they were done and we sat down to eat, he took a roll and asked for the syrup....which is his way of saying he wants honey. He does it all the time, even though I keep telling him it is honey. I am sure he would like syrup on his roll too....he dips his apples in ketchup. Crazy.....

Snow Day #5

It is officially snow day #5, the third one in a row. I am hopeful for snow today just so we can get out and go sledding or something! Cabin fever is raging in our house! The girls are claiming that infamous three words "I am bored!". Never mind that they have plenty of toys, books, etc to keep them occupied. I will say that other than that, they have managed to play really well together other than Trey's biting issues yesterday. Most of his behavior was due to no nap...not that I didn't try. My mom has stayed with us the past couple of days so that she can make sure she gets to her radiation treatments which seem to be going well. One of our trees are REALLY leaning low, touching the deck. I am pretty sure if it decides to break, it won't hit any power lines. I do not want to be without power like the last ice storm. Where in the heck would we go with a dog? Our only option would be church....as long as they had power....fingers crossed that doesn't happen!

He Eats!

I know the title seems wierd, but you will understand in a minute....continue reading:
It all started on Thursday evening, when Trey refused to eat supper. It was Chinese and he loves Chinese! We knew something was up. He also threw up a little bit, but only once. He woke up all thru the night running a high fever and not sleeping well. So that means Mom and Dad did not sleep well. I stayed home with him on Friday and he continued to run a fever off and on all day. He slept a lot, but seemed a bit better in the afternoon. He stopped his fevers and continued to drink water, but no food. Saturday he woke up still feeling a bit puny, but no fever/throwing up. He refused to eat any breakfast, ate an apple slice for lunch, and no supper. Horrible night again and then woke up on Sunday and threw up around 6am. No church for Trey. He slept the entire day! I do mean the ENTIRE DAY. He would wake up for 5 minutes every now and again, but still no food except a piece of toast we managed to entice him with. He was pitiful! I was starting to get really worried especially since the fever had ended on Friday. He is so skinny already, he didn't need to lose any weight! He woke up today more like himself. So far he has had crackers and a piece of peanut butter toast for breakfast and a bowl of plain oatmeal for lunch. I am hopeful he is on the mend! I am just happy he is eating again!

Oh yes....it is also snow day #3....not really sure why they didn't use the stupid delay options they have in place, but oh well. I was staying home half a day anyway with Trey. I didn't think he would be ready for daycare today (he is still a little weak). I am sure with what is forecasted for tomorrow, we will have snow day #4 on Tuesday. Looks like a short school week! I hope it snows enough for the kids to go sledding....we haven't done that yet this winter!

On a side note, on Saturday, we had to take the truck to the shop to get looked at. We decided, spur of the moment mind you, to take a side trip while we waited. We drove to one of our president's home site to look around. It was so cool. In all the year's I have lived here, I have never been! The girls enjoyed it and Trey was happy to tag along even though he slept alot in the car. It was all free and they had a museum, not to mention the house in which he was born. Very neat. I highly recommend it, especially for older kids!

What A Week!

Okay, having a snow day last week, plus Monday off has made this week very busy!! I am so looking forward to Friday being done! Here is a recap of our week....

Last Wednesday at approximately 3 am, Daniel left home for Puerto Rico. Why sunny (and WARM!) Puerto Rico you ask? Well, he is on the National Guard rifle team and they went to a competition down there. Rough, huh? It was here at times! Trey really and I stress the word REALLY missed his daddy. Even to the point that he was waking up in the middle of the night, crying out for daddy. It was so sad....made me want to cry! The weekend went by pretty fast b/c Mimi surprised the kiddos by making an appearance here all the way from Florida! We met her and Poppy at IHOP and she popped around the corner (they had no idea!). Meghan's face was priceless! I wish I had had the camera....but that was in Puerto Rico.

Daniel made it home Tuesday evening around 8pm, which was hard b/c that is everyone's bedtime. We have had something every night so catching up with Daddy has been difficult. We did enjoy a yummy night out tonight courtesy of Poppy and Uncle Bill to celebrate Daniel and Alyssa's birthday! It was great chinese food and good company! Daniel also got to celebrate his birthday (which was Monday) in Puerto Rico....not to mention wear shorts for a week! I am so jealous!!! Here are a few pictures he took in the plane and on the range. They did get to go to San Juan, but one of his buddies took pictures (with a better camera than ours) and said he would email them to Daniel....so you will have to wait for those!

Taken from the range...see the targets in the back?

Doesn't this one look like a painting?

Update on Mom

I have had a few people ask about how my mom is doing, so I thought I would post an update. She started radiation this past Wednesday. No side effects yet, but they say fatigue usually hits about week 3. My mom is already dealing with chronic fatigue syndrome, so I am really hopeful she will not feel anymore tired than she already does. She says it does not hurt and only takes 15 minutes. Not too bad considering it could be a lot worse. I appreciate all your prayers and ask that you continue them. Also pray for me as I head to the doctor tomorrow for my first mammogram. I am not too excited about it, but know it is a neccessity. I had to get special permission from my insurance to have it since I am not "of age" yet. Finally....something I am not old enough to do! (but have to do anyway!!!). OH well! I am glad I have one more day at home.....I love long weekends!

Snow...Cold Day #2

Okay, I have to admit, I was VERY excited not to go to school today due to extreme temperatures. Lily cried when she found out yesterday afternoon. Her class has earned their compliment "PAWS" and they had earned a pj day/movie. She was so upset b/c as she put it "I had to wait sooo long for it and now I have to wait again!". She will have to have it next Friday...poor baby! She warmed up to the idea once I said we could have a pj day today! However, Mommy made everyone get dressed (after making made-from-scratch pancakes for breakfast) and we ran out to run some errands. As I was out, I thought...this weather isn't too bad, but try taking a deep breath! It hurt my lungs. Meghan thought the same thing too! It. Was. Cold. Anything with a negative in front of it should not be allowed! I am so glad we don't live somewhere were this kind of temperature is the norm!

While we were out running errands, I had decided to get Trey a spiderman potty seat (b/c we all know he LOVES spiderman!). He has shown an increased interest in the potty, even asking to sit on it sometimes. When we got home, he wanted to use it right away, so I put him on. We were talking (Trey and I) and then he peed a little bit! Yea!!!! He got some M&M's and then wanted to get back on to do it again. I had to talk him into eating lunch first...lol. He will be 2 1/2 years old in a couple of weeks and the girls just sort of potty trained themselves at that age. I am still not going to push it with Trey just b/c I don't really want to deal with it unless he is totally ready, which he may very well be. I will just keep trying....of course, the hopes of Bob the Builder undies is HUGE....does anyone know where I could get some??

Around Here......

This week has been busy with having to get back up again and getting everyone off to school. Meghan had honor band practice last night, all day today, and has her performance tomorrow. She also has a new boyfriend, who she has had a "crush" on for a while now. I know....she is only 11, but at this age a boyfriend means they say hi in the hall at school. There are no dates, no phone calls. I like this kind of "boyfriend". He asked her to be his girlfriend by leaving a little note in her locker....she smiled for the rest of the day! Lily has been a socialite all thru the break and this week as well. She cannot stay away from her friends! She had two sleepovers in a row last week...one at our house and then the next night, she went to a friend's. Trey's speech has taken off since last week. He is talking so much more....sometimes still hard to understand, but talking just the same. He is even talking more at school and hitting less....yea!!! He has had good reports from daycare all week. He is OBSESSED with football and wearing his gloves/mittens all the time (and I do mean all the time!). He even has mittens on in the video below. He puts on a batting helmet and likes to tackle his Pooh bear. He also likes to throw his football....he actually has a pretty good arm. He started counting to thirteen over the break and I tried to get him to do it on video, but what you see below is the best I could get him to do.....he is at such a cute age!

20 Weeks....Not That I am Counting!

I know....it is a bit much to think that far ahead, but we have 20 weeks of school left (not counting spring break). I am a planner. I like to look ahead and have in front of me what I need to accomplish. Being able to mark off a week gives me that sense of accomplishment and one step closer to my goal.....summer vacation! I know all you parents out there are thinking "What! You should focus on my kid!". I am all about my students when I am at school and I do love teaching. However, there is a big part of me that longs to be a stay-at-home mom and summer time gives me that. After having two weeks at home, I really want to stay here! I am figuring in a couple of snow days, but hopefully they won't amount to a lot! So here's to a great start in 2009 and a quick spring semester!

My Yes Man

Okay, I realize that to some of you, this post is going a little overboard. Who gets excited about the word "yes"? It is a simple word, used daily, over and over again. HOWEVER.....Trey, my almost 2 1/2 year old, had NEVER used the word on his own. He would only say it after one of us said it. If asked if he wanted to go outside (for instance), he would either repeat outside or say no, even though he meant yes. It could get very confusing....trying to figure out if he really meant no or yes. Lily would ask him something and then say "Trey, yes or no?" and being the 2 year old that he is...his reply would be "yes or no"....those words exactly. So yesterday, when I asked Trey if he was okay after he slipped and fell in the kitchen , he popped up and said "yeah". I about fell over! I then would ask questions throughout the day to make sure it wasn't a one time thing. He has said it many times, so I think he FINALLY figured out how to say yes in his own way. He still does not say yes, but a very resounding YEAH! Needless to say, I am very excited to finally hear it from his lips! My very own Yes Man!

Happy New Year!

We tried out our new fondue pot last night with chocolate fondue and it was a big hit! The girls couldn't get enough of it. Trey liked licking the chocolate off of the things he dipped, but didn't like the two items together. Last night we just stayed in and watched Shrek 2 on tv and then the kids went to bed. Daniel and I stayed up to watch the ball drop and then went to bed. Nothing too exciting, but we stayed warm!!! I hope everyone has a wonderful 2009!
